Chapter 1
The New Game

I swept my hands over the dusty overalls I could never remember being without, sending flecks of mud in every direction. Pushing on one nostril, I found that I even sneezed mud. It was grimy stuff, and I felt it burn as it came out. Tomorrow I'd have to be careful to close my mouth next time the Nicelanders threw me from the roof. I carefully inched my way out of the mud hole and began towards my pile of bricks. It was not much to look at, I admit, but the little makeshift house Q*bert and I had fashioned out of those left over bricks looked pretty comfortable after a long day at work. But I couldn't sleep, not yet.

I reached the place in no time, managing to knock over the shrubs by the door to the apartments on my way past, but hey, Felix could fix it. It was his job; he could bother with small stuff like that. Right now I had a very important date in my head and some little 8-bit trees were not about to stop me.

The call sounded outside, signaling the close of the arcade. That meant I only had twenty minutes before I was set to meet Vanellope! The tram trip alone would take fifteen. I grabbed the doorknob, wanting to get in as soon as possible. In my haste, I closed my fingers too tight and the knob crumbled in my palm.

"Great, just dandy," I muttered under my breath. There was no time for this! Glancing quickly towards the apartments, I raised a giant fist and swung it into the wooden door. It shattered, leaving me an opening to rush inside and grab my gift.

It was neatly wrapped; Felix had helped me with that. Apparently huge hands are not that great for crafting. Who knew? But it was worth it. Beneath its glittery wrapping, I knew she'd love it. I had picked it out especially for her. And when she opened it, she'd...

I raised my head in triumph when I thought of that dopy grin of hers she'd surely have when I gave this to her. The movement brought my head to the ceiling and an 'Owh!' escaped my lips. I was rubbing my head when a new voice sounded.

"By Lands, brother, we're gonna have to build you yet another new house at this rate!" This was followed by a loud chuckle and I heard Felix's work boots step carefully on the shattered remains of the door.

"Can't talk right now, Felix, I've got a very important meeting with the president tonight, and I'm already running late, so..." I dribbled off, not wanting to hurt the little guy's feelings. I, of all people, knew that was easy to do to the overly sensitive Felix. He kept his wide grin and nodded.

"I had just wanted to ask you if you saw that new game we got installed in the arcade today. Looked mighty fancy if you ask me, all glowy and bright."

"Yeah, and loud, don't forget loud," I muttered, following my friend out of the house. I had seen the new game and it had looked obnoxious to me. Some sort of music dance game, as if we didn't have enough of those already.

RabbytHunt had been out for a week, my poor friends the Rabbyts without home for that time. Thankfully there had been another game willing to take them in, the setting a forest so the little guys could blend right in. But the absence of the console had been both a bit unnerving and exciting. Last night, Tapper's had been all a buzz with predictions as to what would be plugged in next. And today, we found out.

Two repair men had been needed to move the humungous console into place. Its screen alone equaled at least five of Fix-It-Felix Jr's, dwarfing even that of Hero's Duty which sat acrost from it. The name spiraled around its shell read MUSIKMAKERS500. External pieces had been hooked up in front of it, a music mic, a drum set, even a keyboard and two guitars. Characters had flashed across the screen, but at that moment, Gene had ordered the Nicelanders to throw me from the roof at the end of another successful game, and I didn't manage to get a good look.

I did see, however, Vanellope's excited face as she stared from her screen past the player sitting in front of her. The new game had caught her attention and there was a glint in her eyes as she took in everything about it. I saw her turn to me with a smile before gravity hit and I saw mud yet again.

"If you weren't busy, I'd ask you to come with me to welcome our new neighbors, but of course, there will be no keeping the president waiting!" Felix chuckled, bounding over to the tram station. I followed, grinding my teeth. As much as I appreciated his optimism, it was hard to stand at times. It escaped me just how someone could be that cheerful all the time. I had only ever seen him mad once, and he had been locked in a candy dungeon at the time so it seemed fair enough for him to be so. But since then, always cheerful.

We both boarded the little tram, with a few grimaces from me as the metal buckled a bit under my weight, and rode to Game Central Station. The trip was short, with Felix talking the entire time. I heard nothing of it. All I could do was stare at the present in my hands and choke down my excitement as it threatened to burst out. I saw her every night, but it never got old. I could never grow tired of such a thing. And tonight, oh, tonight was a reason to celebrate.

If only I would have known my excitement was in vain.
Chapter 1 of a fan fiction I began writing after seeing Disney's Wreck It Ralph. Cutest movie ever!

I'll mention, it's not all written from Ralph's point of view. Just read a little further in the paragraphs and you'll be able to tell quickly which character is talking.
